Reclaiming Joy

A sculpture with a journey. Kimberley Gundle started this sculpture in lockdown 2020 when shops closed, schools shut and we became atomised, isolated behind our closed front doors. She has always channelled her feelings through her art practice. People have and continue to be central to her world. To anchor herself and keep herself grounded during these uncertain times she began building a sculpture encapsulating the feelings joy and freedom she hoped for once the Covid _19 pandemic had passed. She built the sculpture from cardboard, paper mâché, and plaster as that was all she could get hold of. The sculpture evolved as she added and formed metal, a concrete base, and added a carousel post. This sculpture now in fibreglass reaches for the sky as the sky is the limit. She has a star in one hand a filled cocktail glass in the other the sun on her head as she reaches out high above her open flower base towards the sky Reclaiming Joy. A true celebration of colour and lightness of being.
