My practice is rooted in observing and building relationships with individuals in communities that I feel connected to on a human level.

In 2009, I joined a charity hike across the floor of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. I was captivated by the bold adorned beauty of the Maasai people, their vibrant colours and ornate beadwork contrasted with the parched landscape, which they seemed to drift across.

My creative output between 2009 and 2017 evolved from this first immersion. I returned many times to Maasai communities,  staying in remote settlements, drawing, photographing and absorbing their culture and tradition, on which I reflected upon and used as the foundation for my studio work. I focused on individual figures, using a multi-media approach, emphasizing surface, texture and colour. I rejoice in the physical manifestation of the Maasai, which is deeply rooted in earth and spirit. Exploring the representation of the Maasai through large scale drawings, screen-print, watercolour, clay and glazes.

Whenever I sell my work inspired by the Maasai I return a percentage to the communities who inspired the work. The largest project funded was to bring fresh clean water to the community of Matunge and surrounding villages a population of 5000 people.
